Common Questions and Answers

How long does a session last?

Between 1 to 2 hours, this will depend on each case.

When will I notice an improvement?

Sometimes there is an immediate notable improvement or it may take a few sessions. Most soft tissue issues are accumulative, they didn't happen overnight and can take time to improve.

How often should a horse be massaged?

This depends on the horses level of work, conformation, health, extent of injury, tack etc A horse in hard work could benefit from a massage twice a month, the normal working horse at least once a month as maintenance. This way subtle changes can be detected early on and issues avoided.

Can I ride after a session?

Follow up exercise is important after massage. Healthy, sound horses can be ridden after a session, long and low is the rule of thumb. If you do not have time to ride a 15 minute walk or jog should be arranged within a few hours after the session.

I am competing tomorrow, will my horse be OK?

Once a horse is on a regular massage routine, yes. For a first session you may want to give yourselves some time. Some horses will be more sensitive after, your horse will need to adjust to his new freedom in movement and so will you.
